Woof woof, Briar, speaking. :) I have some super cool news! We just got a new library assistant, Christina Torkelson. She’s so awesome and she has two really neat kiddos that come see me at the library, Solomon and Irene. They love me and like to play with me. That makes me happy. My mom is so excited to have Christina work with her at the library. Christina loves kids just like my mom does. Although I really wish Hans was staying. I love Hans. He’s a super tall guy, but he always bends down to pet me when I greet him (and Mom says I greet him far too enthusiastically, whatever that means). Mom is pretty bummed Hans is leaving. She really appreciates him and hopes this change is good for him. 😊 Mom visited the high school homeroom classes this past Wednesday and Friday mornings. She’s putting together a Library Youth Council for teen programming for our community. She has a couple more classes to hit this week then they’ll begin the journey of teen programming for the coming year. I just hope the teenagers like me. Maybe they will let me lick their faces! (Mom hates it when I do that.) I love making new friends. Our summer reading program is about to begin. Sign-ups for children, youth, and adults will begin at the library on Tuesday, May 30th!! Our theme this year is “Paws to Read!” (Mom says my paws are HUGE, but they seem just right to me!) There are lots of fun activities for all ages. Mom says reading is for everyone from tall to small and that reading can take you anywhere you want to go. I really like the books about bovines, no wait, equines…no, that’s not right…dogs. I like the books about dogs…yup, dogs. Here is the regular library line-up:

Meeooowww, Thistle, here. :) It’s so good to have my parents and my annoying HUMONGOUS little sister home. Although, I must say that Briar isn’t eating my head near as much as she used to. We like to hang out and snuggle and that’s pretty pawsome. 😊 There were many children in the library this week, which makes me, Briar, and Mom sooooo very happy. We love kids. Adults are great too, especially the ones that hold me and give me lovies. On Monday the Little Tykes read stories about mothers and then made Mother’s Day posters for their moms. They did such a good job. They were absolutely purrrfect! On Wednesday we had Memory Mates where we keep our minds sharp with physical movement and brain games. We just love Valerie Ramsey. She’s the sweetest! Last Thursday night we had a super cool class about genealogy. Lois Trinity came from Red Oak and taught us all things Family Search Research Wiki. We only had a few people attend, but those who attended learned a lot and had a great time together. We are organizing a Library Youth Council made up of seventh to twelfth graders to meet, advise, and implement teen programming in our library and community. If you’d like to join us, let us know! Mom’s getting things together and preparing for the summer reading program. You should see all the games and activities that have been coming in the mail. I think the UPS guy might feel like he lives here! LOL Our theme this year is “Paws to Read!” (Get it? Pause to read?! 😹 It’s killin’ me!!) There are lots of fun activities for all ages. Mom says reading is for everyone from tall to small and that reading can take you anywhere you want to go. I really like the books about felines (I think that’s the word). Sign-ups for the reading program will start at the end of May. All ages are welcome. Knowledge is power! 😊 Here is the regular library line-up:

What activities, classes, or get-togethers of any kind would you like to see the Malvern Public Library provide for our community? Call my Mom, Lisa Formhals, or, Hans Leitner, your assistant librarian, at the library (712-624-8554) to give your input on what activities you’d like to have offered at your library. May you get lots of snuggles, Thistle, the library kitten. Woof woof, Briar speaking. :) I was gone FOREVER! I didn’t see Mom, Dad, or Thistle for two whole weeks!! I missed them a lot. Luckily, I got to spend those two weeks at my doggy mom’s, Ellie’s, house in Cherokee, Iowa. My half-sister, Gweny, and I played and played and played. She’s a full-blooded Golden Retriever and is six months older than me, but I’m bigger.:) Mom took me to the vet’s office to weigh me last Thursday and I gained 5 more pounds in the two weeks we were apart. I weighed 66.5 lbs. and I’m a little over 7 months old. I don’t feel any different, but Mom says I’m quite a bit bigger. She says I have the gait (whatever that means) of a German Shepherd just like my doggy dad. Mom and Dad got home from Italy at 11:30pm and picked me up the next morning at 10:00am. It was so good to see them. I was excited, but a little unsettled that Gweny and Ellie weren’t coming with us. I really like playing with Gweny. We chew up lots of sticks and carry around, as well as play tug ‘o war with, lots of stuffed animals. We love to tear them apart. 😊 I have some pretty wicked scars on my nose. I kept getting cut and the Mitchells kept sending my parents videos of my owies and apologizing for my being maimed (not really sure what that means). Mom and Dad think my scars are cool and so do I. They think it looks like Zoro (whoever that is) marked me or that I was thrown in a briar patch. Parents are so silly. I’m happy to be back home with all the cats, but especially my sister, Thistle. It’s good to be able to snuggle with her again. I’m also excited to see everyone at the library. I’ve missed you!! Please come by and say, “Hi.” Tummy rubbing and ball throwing is always welcome. 😊 Mom’s getting things together and preparing for the summer reading program. Our theme this year is “Paws to Read!” There are lots of fun activities for all ages. Mom says reading is for everyone from tall to small. I’m hoping that some kids will come read to me and maybe even throw the ball. 😊 Sign-ups for the reading program will start at the end of May. All ages are welcome. 😊 Did you know that the Malvern Public Library has a new policy for check outs? It’s true! There are no longer late fees and the length of time for check outs has changed. Books can be checked out for 3 weeks with renewals as long as there are no holds by other patrons. DVDs can be checked out for a week, instead of two days, and you can renew them if there are no holds on them. So, if you had late fees on your account, you no longer do. How cool is that?! Here is what’s happening at the library on a regular basis:
