Woof woof, Briar, speaking. :) Monday’s Little Tykes Reading Time was AWESOME!!! I got to play with the littles and many of them threw the ball for me! I was in total DOGGIE HEAVEN!! I’m trying to be more careful with the littles and not bowl them over like a bull in a China shop. (They are like Weebles, (whatever those are) but they DO fall down.) Mom was super proud of me. (It was really hard, though. I couldn’t help but lick them in the face. They are soooooo adorable!) Later that day I got to spend play time with more of my favorite friends. They took me out on a walk!! It was so much fun!! My big sister, Thistle, (she’s two and a half weeks older than me) is super good about letting the littles pick her up and pet her. I wish I was small enough for the littles to pick me up and snuggle me. But I’m a growing girl. I’m six months old now. I just had my half-birthday on April 28th!! Mom says she hopes I’m nearly through growing. She says my tail is a force to be reckoned with…not sure what that means, but I bet it’s good! Mom got to attend a STEM fair in Anita, Iowa last Thursday. I couldn’t go with her. Dad had to work, too, so Thistle and I stayed home. Boy was that weird. Then Mom left us again on Friday to attend a summer reading workshop. I’m not a huge fan of being left at home. I should go wherever Mom goes…it’s only fair. Last Saturday Mom went to work without me, AGAIN!! (I’m starting to get a complex.) She said they showed the new Puss in Boots movie and the kids, and adults, really enjoyed it. She said something about chocolate, soda, and popcorn not being good for dogs… Here is what’s happening at the library on a regular basis:

Meowww,
Thistle here. :) This last week was great! Monday morning we had Little Tykes Story Time and then Monday afternoon we had a Drangonland Adventures afterschool STEM class. We had six attendants for our six BeeBots and we learned how to code!! The bees dressed as dragons were a hoot! Amber, from our awesome extension office, taught our class. She was amazing. The rest of our week was good. Mom said book club was fun, but I missed it because I was at home playing with another kitten friend. That was so much fun, too!!! Mom and Dad went somewhere Thursday night and I didn’t see them until Sunday night. What was that all about?!!! I haven’t let them out of my sight since. Briar, speaking. :) Holy smokes!!! We had 30 peeps for Tykes Story Hour!! I was soooooo excited!!! There were so many little people. I just wanted to play with them, but Mom said that I had to stay in her office. She says I’m like a bull in a China shop, whatever that means. But all those little people in their cute little fire chief hats were so darn adorable!!! Our wonderful Malvern Fire Department brought their fire truck to show to the littles and give them and their moms/grandmas rides. Overall, they enjoyed it. Some of the littles weren’t too sure about it and decided to stay at the library. But they all enjoyed the Goldfish crackers and the fruit snacks. I personally think they would’ve enjoyed chewing a stick or chasing a ball more…I know I would. They also put together a fire truck puzzle while the different groups took turns getting rides. On Tuesday morning Dad didn’t feed me breakfast and took me in the car to town. I thought we were going visiting, but it turns out we went to the place where the man pokes and prods me then sticks a needle in me. This time they stuck me in a cage. What was that all about?! Next thing I know I’m waking up and feeling all woozie and my belly has been shaved, just like Thistle’s!!! Is this some sort of new club?! I didn’t feel so hot. Definitely not hungry. I felt better the next day, but Mom and Dad wouldn’t play ball with me. Did they suddenly just forget how to play? So weird. Tuesday evening the Friends of the Malvern Library had an entertaining and historical lecture, in celebration of women’s history month, called “Straight-laced Girls, Uptight Ladies, and Loose Women”. Fifteen people attended. An enjoyable evening was had by all! Thursday, due to the snow, the school had a late start so Mom didn’t get to go read to the kids. She was bummed. In fact, due to scheduling conflicts for both the school and library Mom won’t be visiting the school until April. This is what’s happening at the library on a regular basis:

May your sticks be many and your teeth be strong! Briar, the library puppy. Meoowww, Thistle, here. :) This last week was a busy one. We had 21 peeps for Tykes Story Hour!! That was soooo awesome. Briar and I LOVE it when the kids come to the library. We really get to play on Monday afternoons with our friends Gianna, Raelynn, Nolan, and Cambria. Gianna and Raelyn love me, especially. They carry me around and give me lovies almost the entire time they are there…I LOVE them.❤️. Briar goes nuts with the kids. They run and play and sometimes the kids take Briar out for a walk. That makes her so very happy. We adore kids. ❤️ We’re pretty lucky. Thursday was a weird day. Mom and Dad didn’t let me have ANY breakfast…what in the world was THAT all about?!! Then, Dad drove me to the place where it smells like a million other animals and left me in a cage! The people there were nice. I don’t remember going to sleep, but all of a sudden I was waking up and my belly was shaved! WEIRD!! Next thing I know Mom is there to pick me up and when we left the building we just walked across the street to the library!! I was at Hilltop Animal Hospital!! Who knew?!! Mom said I was supposed to stay quiet so she put me in the work room by myself and closed the door. (She was worried about Briar eating my head and playing too rough…’cause Briar ALWAYS does. My Mom is always yelling, “Briar! Stop eating your sister!!” Anyway, I didn’t particularly care for being alone and I saw this cool metal step ladder so I climbed it and knocked it over and when Mom opened the door to check on me I bolted out the door into her office and jumped up on the desk. To my great delight, there were a few bits of kibble left in my dish so I tucked right in. I was STARVING, for Pete’s sake. Mom wasn’t too happy about the whole thing, but she had to leave to read to the kids at the elementary school then so I got away with it.:) She’ll forgive me. She loves me. On Friday at 4:00pm the Malvern Fire Department brought their fire truck to show to our after-school kids and took three different groups for a ride in the truck. They even got to run the siren when they got out of the town proper. So cool!!! Grown-ups got to go too! My Mom, Mary Beth Costello, and Jennifer Henscheid had their very first ride in a fire truck. Isn’t that hilarious?!! All the children who showed up had a blast. All received yummy snacks, as well. We so appreciate our fire fighters!! These amazing volunteers will be bringing their truck at 10:00am for Monday’s Little Tykes Story Time peeps. We’ll have to share those pictures in next week’s paper. The Saturday showing of On the Basis of Sex only had a few attendees, but all who came enjoyed it immensely. The movie was very well done. Ruth Bader Ginsburg is a name in the realm of politics that people either love or do not love. There is everything to love about the case she takes on in the movie. She fights for equal rights for a bachelor that is taking care of his elderly mother. He hires a nurse to help him care for his mother who requires around the clock care. In so doing, he deducts the wages he paid the nurse from his taxable monies. According to the law at that time, only women could be caretakers, so the gentleman was being taken to court for not paying enough taxes. Happily, Ruth wins the argument and thereby, precipitates the change of a biased law. Well worth the watch. Here’s a bit of the programming going on at the library on a regular basis:
Every Thursday afternoon my Mom goes to the elementary school and reads to 3-6 different classes. Miss Nielsen changes things up to spread the wealth. Saturdays (most activities appropriate for school age children and families):
