The Library Monthly
By Rebecca Bassich, Library Director
Fall is in the air, and the Malvern Public Library is already abuzz with great anticipation for the holiday season. Spooky Halloween tales and books about Christmas spirit have already begun popping up in the many nooks and crannies of our library. The front desk’s glass display case now showcases some of our favorite fall book selections, including: “Harry Potter & the Cursed Child”, “The Wind in the Willows” and other popular titles. In preparation for Halloween, our Comics & Cosplay Club members are diligently working on creating handmade costumes for a cosplay contest that promises fun, prizes and goodies for all. The Friends of the Malvern Public Library meet next month to begin working on their tree for the Festival of Trees. Talks of a Holiday Music program are also in the works – see “Announcements” for details!
New language books have begun filling out the Reference section, slowly but surely. While these books are not available for checking out, they are most definitely available for viewing and studying from. Thus far, we have titles for students of both Japanese and Swedish. The goal here is to one day house a Language section that allows any who wish to study their favorite language in earnest here at the library, at no charge. We all know how language books can get pretty expensive, so why spend the money when you can get some real studying in at your local library? If you have any language books you would like to donate to our little project, give us a call! Our phone number is: (712) 624-8554.
ATTENTION GENEALOGISTS AND FAMILY HISTORIANS! Our Archives Department has recently cataloged hundreds of letters-to-the-editor of the Malvern Leader, the late Allen Wortman, from local servicemen stationed away from home during WWII. A list of those servicemen and the number of letters we have on file will be published in our next two monthly columns. If you are interested in receiving a copy or copies for your family records, please call the Malvern Public Library at (712) 624-8554 or email us at email@example.com. Our volunteers will make copies for area locals to pick up at the circulation desk. For out-of-towners, copies will be made and mailed. This service is free, but donations will be gladly received.
MUSICIANS WANTED! We are planning a holiday music concert program for our Malvern Library in December. Singers and instrumentalists are needed. The date and time have yet to be decided and will depend on the availability of our musicians. Please do give us a call or email us if you would like to perform! Call us at (712) 624-8554 or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
FRIENDS WANTED! Do you have a passion for literacy and reading? Would you like to make your voice heard on the issues that impact our library most while hanging out with some of the coolest people around? The Malvern Public Library wants to hear from you! Give us a call at (712) 624-8554 or email us at email@example.com to learn more.
