BOOK CLUB READER’S REVIEWS:
At Malvern Public Library, our Book Club is comprised of some of the community’s most avid readers. In starting off the new year, we decided to try something new and write reviews for some of our favorite titles we are reading. The Forgotten Soldier A Review by John Downey: “This is the memoir of a French-German recruit to the Wehrmacht who served on the Eastern Front from Fall 1942 to Spring 1945. The narrative begins with 17-year-old Sajer learning to drive trucks and half-tracks in Poland from mid-September to November, 1942. After completing training, his company doesn’t quite make it to Stalingrad before the German 6th Army was surrounded and cut off. Then begins the long retreat across Ukraine and into Hungary. His co-driver is killed in a strafing run by a Soviet fighter, and he experiences the first of many losses. When his next best friend is cajoled into joining an elite unit, he volunteers to stay with him. He survives training in the Gross Deutschland Division largely through his friend’s help. His tale is how he experienced the war. He’s told names of cities and villages but has only the vaguest idea of their importance to the war.’” Proof of Heaven by Eben Alexander, M.D. A Review by Karen Bassich: “Proof of Heaven by neurosurgeon, Eben Alexander, M.D., is a compelling story examining his own true-life experience of having a near-death experience (NDE). If you are searching for evidence of life after death, his story will resonate with an affirmation of the hope it is real. Beautifully written, his account envelops the reader in a deeply moving way, his humility and candid account validating its nature of resonating in Truth. If you are a skeptic of life after death, Dr. Alexander provides a scientific analysis of the events surrounding his NDE that may remove any doubt you have. In detail he explains in medical/scientific terms the proof that validates his ‘real’ experience. It is an uplifting and heartwarming story of family love and devotion. A must read!” This title is currently available for check out from our collection and also happens to be our Book of the Month! Be sure to stop in and check it out for yourself.
