The Library Monthly
By Rebecca Bassich, Library Director What can be said for this past month at the Malvern Public Library? Much has taken place in the duration of these last few weeks. Of particular interest to our patrons has been the recent change in the library’s collection itself. Books have been rearranged to reflect the growing need for more space in each of the sections, and more bookcases have thus been filled. The Young Adult (or “YA”) section is second only to the NonFiction in terms of size, and yet, it presides as one of the more popular collections in our library amongst all ages. Thanks also to some very generous donors, the new Historical Corner of the library now boasts a variety of books for patrons to read and enjoy with some dating from as far back as 1893. Where else in Malvern can you go to read an auto mechanic’s manual from 1936 or a biography on Ulysses S. Grant from 1898, all in one sitting? Through all the changes, our Comics & Cosplay Club continues to pick up steam with its weekly meetings. Club members are learning the basics of Japanese, showing off their talent at monthly contests and winning awesome goodies while, most importantly, sharing their passion for all things manga and comic book related with others. Another topic of importance is that the Little Tykes Reading Hour has recently changed its scheduled time from Tuesdays and Thursdays to Saturday mornings at 11:00 am, for which our most wonderful volunteer, Ms. Connie Crawley, reads to our community’s little ones. For anyone with kids or grandkids, consider this your personal invitation to our Little Tykes Reading Hour on Saturday. We would love to have you! I would also like to take this opportunity to bid a very fond farewell to our former Library Assistant, Ms. Joanna DeJarnett, who worked so very hard for our Malvern Public Library these past two years before embarking on her journey to a higher education. With that said, our library is very happy to introduce our new Library Assistant, Ms. Janet Vanatta. Welcome aboard, Janet! Announcements The Malvern Public Library is hoping to jumpstart a new Literacy Class for all ages and reading levels. If you struggle with or simply want to improve upon your reading skills, we want to hear from you! Our wonderful mentors are ready to assist. Participation is completely free and at no cost to you.
