The Library Monthly
By Rebecca Bassich, Library Director You've just settled into your favorite couch after a long day's work. Just like any other night, the TV sits there in front of you with its dark, glossy screen beckoning to you. Just as you lean forward for the remote, you feel something and freeze. What was that? Awkwardly reaching into the cushioning beneath you, you discover a large, weathered book and grab hold of it. Looking at the dusty, yellowed pages, you think: How strange! Where did this come from? Who was the author? How...? You begin to read and, quite unexpectedly, you discover a world so intriguing that it transports you to places you never thought possible. You find that these places are truly alive, and while it seems to be just the most incredible fantasy, the characters live and breathe just as you do. They have real personalities, real struggles and amazing stories to tell. The adventures are endless and the music of your mind makes it all the more real. Welcome to this incredible place. Welcome to your Imagination! ANNOUNCEMENTS ATTENTION GENEALOGISTS AND FAMILY HISTORIANS! Our Archives Department has recently cataloged hundreds of letters-to-the-editor of the Malvern Leader, the late Allen Wortman, from local servicemen stationed away from home during WWII. A list of those servicemen and the number of letters we have on file will be published in our next two monthly columns. If you are interested in receiving a copy or copies for your family records, please call the Malvern Public Library at (712) 624-8554 or email us at [email protected]. Our volunteers will make copies for area locals to pick up at the circulation desk. For out-of-towners, copies will be made and mailed. This service is free, but donations will be gladly received. MUSICIANS WANTED! We are planning a holiday music concert program for our Malvern Library in December. Singers and instrumentalists are needed. The date and time have yet to be decided and will depend on the availability of our musicians. Please do give us a call or email us if you would like to perform! Call us at (712) 624-8554 or email us at [email protected]. FRIENDS WANTED! Do you have a passion for literacy and reading? Would you like to make your voice heard on the issues that impact our library most while hanging out with some of the coolest people around? The Malvern Public Library wants to hear from you!
