MARCH 2017 By Rebecca Bassich, Library Director Malvern Carnegie Library Centennial Celebration 1917-2017 2017 marks the 100th anniversary of the Carnegie Library in Malvern, Iowa. The library first opened its doors on June 2, 1917, and continues to be a crucial force in the education and promotion of literacy and other service-based programs in southwest Iowa. Read on to learn how you can join us in celebrating this historic Carnegie Centennial event! Carnegie Library Centennial Fundraiser: Families, individuals and organizations are invited to support the Friends of the Malvern Public Library in their new fundraising campaign with the goal of furthering library restoration and revitalization projects. Your generous contribution to the Friends of the Library will help fund three key objectives: Renovation of the historic Carnegie library is planned. This includes implementing crucial repairs to the building foundation, roofing and other maintenance projects that lend to preserving the integrity of the Carnegie library structure. Continually upgrading and expanding the library inventory of computer equipment will support a state-of-the-art learning environment within the library for public use. Strengthening and diversifying library collections will support teaching, learning, and research through the acquisition of books and other media, and the assembly of unique special collections tailored toward language acquisition, the library’s historic Archives and more. Pledge Your Support: Your support of this project will make a direct and lasting impact in the lives of Malvern youth and the wider community for generations to come. While this fundraiser is ongoing, all donations received by June 2, 2017 will merit the donor a special mention in our July publication of the Library Monthly.
